Show #26, December 10
A special focus on youth and exercise.  Childhood Obesity and Diabetes rages are increasing in NorthAmerica.
Our fitness professional, Russ Thorne talks to a group of high school students about the need for fitness! He then leads the students through a fun Get Moving workout that everyone can do!    We visit a gym that is used by youth on the Stony First Nation in Alberta and we finish off with a look at Canada’s new food guide. Reminder: Coleen runs her first half marathon on Friday’s show!

Theresa Garson (who has type 2 diabetes) gets some respite help to deal with stress at home.  We look back her progress this season. One of the most positive changes is that she is encouraging her children to be active.      All of the Vitality advice has rubbed off on her!    We then move onto how to reduce stress in your home by getting organized!  We have an organizing diva on the program to show us how to set up a home filing system.

We share a teaching about why aboriginal people braid their hair.    We also visit with an elder near Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Elder Dave Gehue talks about the role of spirituality in his life.   We end off on with a mini exercise break.

Nutrition makeover participant Alice McKay sums up her progress on Vitality this season.     This is Alice’s second season with Vitality. Last time she underwent a spirituality makeover to learn more about her Cree traditions.   Chef Arnold Olson whips up a tasty sponge cake with a surprise guest assistant.

Season Finale from Las Vegas, Nevada. This season, our host Coleen Rajotte has been undergoing a fitness makeover.  Six months ago, she set a goal to get fit and run a half marathon by the end of the season.     Tune in to see Coleen’s attempt at the running 13.1 miles in the 3rd Annual Las Vegas Marathon. It’s a marathon like no other with Vegas touches such as runners getting married on the course…and people running dressed up as Elvis.   We’ve also included some funny behind the scenes moments from this past season.
